Dear Members,
First and formost, my condolences to Marie Schulz and her family for the sudden and unexpected loss of Robert Schulz. The news of his passing has left us all shocked and sad.
I met Robert over 10 years ago and always found him helping at the Club or directing the West Australian Mandolin Orchestra with passion and pride. He was a genuine gentleman and served as the Club Secretary for many years. Robert’s last performance conducting WAMO was just a few weeks ago on the 30 of August.
We held a minute of silence at the 67 Club Anniversary for Robert and in the weeks to come I will discuss with the Committee on how we can further honour his contribution to the Club.
Thank you and congratulations to the Edelweiss Dance Group for organising their 50th Alpengaudi party. The Event was sold out and once more everybody had a good time.
We also had a Schlager Friday night with only German Hits, that we are planning to run on a regular basis and our Frühschoppen Anniversary.
Also, in September we had the First WAGBA (Western Australian German Business Association) Business After Hour Event at the Club. Thanks to Pamela Millar for organising this event.
We have now replaced the front gate and gave the area a fresh new look just in time for Oktoberfest 2025. The new snooker room door has also been installed.
As promised at our AGM, we now have two new beautiful outdoor tables. Both tables have a plaque in memory of Irmgard Birtwistle. Thank you, Irmgard.
Community Capital Works Grant- Heating and Cooling Project by OMI
In August we were connected to the new underground power cables and the old overhead powerlines over North Lake Road were removed. Subsequently we were able to install the 4 new air conditioners in the Edelweiss Hall.
The project is now complete, and the grant allowance has been exhausted.
Further works will happen to blend in the new units to the ceiling and the old gas heaters will be removed. Thanks to Russel from Aireflect for organising the complicated power upgrade and thanks again to Annette for organising and handling the grant aspects and overlooking the project.
Community Capital Works Grant- Rhein Donau Main Hall Refurbishment by OMI
Our builder K2 Build has installed the new windows in the Edelweiss Hall. They will also have internal electric blinds fitted. The new windows are double glazed and the facelift of the front of the Club will be inviting and lead to a much better exposure of our facilities.
After Oktoberfest we will start with the second phase of the project and renovate the bar and dancefloor.
It will be a pleasure to see many Club members coming together to help and work hard to give our guests a truly original Oktoberfest experience in Perth. The Club has purchased new T shirts for the Staff to look professional and to make it easier for our guest to identify team members.
I hope all members are happy and healthy.
President
Steve Schlegel
